Gifts that people want

Gifts that people want

The holidays are upon us. This has been a strange year, although the festive lights and decorations were up in early November, the holiday spirit seems to have been delayed.

Hence with less than 10 days to go, I have began my present picking in earnest. Hoping that the frost and freeze in the UK does not delay deliveries as most of my shopping is being done online , I proceed to make my list.

I want to give gifts that people actually need. For me, last minute shopping will not result in presenting my loved ones with senseless and useless objects and trinkets that find their way from the back shelf to the charity store in 6 months.

Here goes my list and rational behind them:

1. Everybody could do with a  detox in January after the holiday nibbles, have been cast aside. My number one stocking stuffer is the Organic Apoteke Detox Face Mask.  All the puddings, candy and buttery roasts have their toll on your skin. This product is the ideal solution. Incidently last Christmas this sold out, so it seems that many have been thinking along the same lines.

2. Blink & Outlier, 2 books by Malcolm Gladwell. Both are real easy reads, very well written and share information we all need to know.

3. Natural, Herbal Body Cream to heal and protect winter skin. I can’t seem to have enough of the stuff this winter. My skin feeling drier than ever. Ensure you choose creams that are natural, organic and free from all the nasties. When you are covering the largest surface area with something, it has to be the best of the best. Remember everything you put on your skin gets into your body. When you put something on a larger area of your skin, more gets in.

4. Massage Vouchers at Spas close to your loved ones homes. These are easy to buy. Locate a Spa within easy reach for the recipient, either call them or go online and purchase a voucher for whatever value you are comfortable with. We all need some TLC after the last year, massage definitely makes the grade in that department.

5. A session with a lifecoach, yoga, meditation or tai chi instructor. Give them something they may not have tried but are inclined to enjoy. You many just help change somebodies life.

Herbal Skin Care: Organic Body Cream for Dry Skin

Organic Apoteke body cream repairs dry damaged skin with a unique nutrient delivery system. Skin is softer, healthier and more hydrated, even after 14hrs.

Organic Apoteke body cream repairs dry damaged skin with a unique nutrient delivery system. Skin is softer, healthier and more hydrated, even after 14hrs.

Yesterday I knew winter was here, when I heard the skin on legs make a soft rasping sound against my jeans…

Cold drizzly days make me want to sit inside and plan my garden, curl up with a book or begin a new knitting project, but there is just nothing cozy about dry chapped legs that make sandpaper seem smooth!

I whipped out my trusty Organic Apoteke Body Cream… I began with my right leg, smoothing it over my slightly red legs with a flaky white film over them.. the difference was instant, and it did not just make my skin soft and supple, it also turned my legs a pleasant golden tone. Wow, I had never noticed such a contrast before. I decided in the name of blogger-science that I would only apply the body cream to one leg and take picture the next day if you could still see the difference.

I woke up in the morning with an itchy left leg, and remembered my little experiment. I looked down at my legs, sure enough the leg that had been massaged with organic body cream was soft and had a healthy look, while the other leg was worse: flaky and parched.

I had to take a picture of this, but looked down and said ” I am not taking a picture of my stubbly legs and posting them on the internet”… I do have some pride! I got in the shower, shaved. I got dressed and checked my email. Plenty of to-do items in my inbox already… so forgot about my photo session for a while. When lunch time rolled I around checked my legs to see if I could still see the difference – was it worth taking a picture? (besides, I was dying to put body cream on my left leg!)

Here is the picture…I hope you can see the difference. Remember this is taken at lunch time the day after I applied the body cream, after a shower and a shave I could still see the difference (I hope you can to – aren’t iphones great?).

Left leg, dry and itchy - right after body cream was applied, then a nights sleep a shower and shave and still looking so much better after only one application of Organic Apoteke Body Cream

P.S. I have seasonally dry skin, but the Body Cream has been tested on people with chronic dry skin conditions such as exzema, with great success. stay tuned for more success stories…

Do you suffer from dry skin? Tell us your story.

Left leg: dry and itchy (no body cream). Right leg , golden, soft and smooth 14hrs after applying the organic body cream.

How Does Herbal Skin Care Work?

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Herbs work by stimulating or regulating functions of the body that may not be working effectively. One example is senna which stimulates the bowel to treat underactive gastric function or constipation. Some remedies help to calm down overactive functioning such as chamomile which has a relaxing and calming action on the nervous system. Using herbs in natural skincare works on the same philosophy.

Herbs are used to stimulate, regulate or calm down the skin.

Natural Skincare: Tips for Sensitive Skin

Monday, November 30th, 2009

1. Avoid products that contain alcohol and Synthetic Fragrances. Look at product labels or contact the company directly to ensure products are alcohol free and also free of all synthetic colors and fragrances.
2. Check all product ingredients. If you have a specific allergy to an ingredient, ensure that it is not in a product. You can view our ingredients in our ingredient glossary.
3. Patch test all products when using them for the first time. Conduct a patch test as follows. Apply product onto the inner wrist in the manner that you are recommended to use the regime. Wait 24 hours observing the area. If you have no un-expected response – please refer to product details for the expected response; test the same regime on the temple. Wait 24 hours. If you have no un-expected response – use products as recommended.
4. Please note that with a sensitivity reaction – every time you use a product this reaction gets worse. With products that stimulate microcirculation, every time you use the product the beauty blush decreases.

Selecting an Organic Body Wash

Friday, November 27th, 2009

There are many reasons to choose an organic body wash: your safety, the beauty and health of your skin and of course the environment. Whatever your reasons might be for making the switch, here are a few helpful hints to help you decide what’s best for you.

DO’S
Look for third party certifications
ECOCERT, USDA, Soil Association area few of the organic certification that you should look out for. If a brand name uses the word organic, don’t assume that the products is organic or even completely natural. Make sure they have a reputable form of certification. Organic Apoteke’s Body Cleanser Gel is certified organic by Ecocert.

Make sure it has a cleansing agent that protects
Soap or wash base is made by combining fat (vegetable or animal) with an alkalizing agent, this causes a chemical reaction which produces soap (cleanser), glycerin (moisturizer) and water (a byproduct). In a good, quality and gentle soap the alkalizing agent is completely transformed and no residual is left in the wash base and the glycerin is retained for its moisturizing properties. Many large manufacturers create soap with extra alkalizing agent (which makes is harsh) and also remove the glycerin to sell it as a commodity. This creates a harsh, drying cleanser which does not have any moisturizing properties. Make sure your organic body wash contains a gentle cleanser and moisturizing ingredients. Organic Apoteke’s Body Wash uses a certified organic vegetable wash base that is very gentle and moisturizing (with retained glycerin).

Organic Apoteke's Body Cleanse Gel is gentle, moisturizing and is free from 1,4-Dioxane, sulfates and alcohol.

as it cleanses

Ask questions
Hold companies accountable, you are entitled to know what goes into your personal care products.

DONT’S

Shelve sulfates – they are bad for your skin and for mother earth
Sulfates are harsh surfactant (ingredients which allow oil and water to mix – allowing cleansing to take place). Sulfates are used in industrial cleaners and in personal care products. Cleansers need surfactants (ingredients which allows oil and water to mix) in order to remove dirt, pollutants and oil but they come in many different types and strengths. Sulfates are particularly harsh, stripping off your skin’s natural oils which protect it and keep it looking young and healthy.

Beware of 1,4-Dioxane– a dangerous contaminant recently detected in so called natural personal care products
1,4-Dioxane is a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer and a suspected kidney toxin, neurotoxin and is considered by the California EPA to be leading groundwater contaminant. Dioxin a contaminant that results from the processing of ingredients found in personal care products. Recent studies show that dioxin is present in personal care products that claim to be natural and with the word “organic” n their brand name. Companies often try to make their harsh ingredients milder by using a process which involves Ethylene Oxide (a petrochemical). 1,4-Dioxane is a byproduct of ethylene oxide. Companies using the words natural and organic should not be using this process, but making a cheap harsh ingredient seems milder is cheaper than using a higher quality ingredient instead. For more information and a list of products in the study visit the organic consumer association website.

Avoid alcohol – it’s just not pretty

With all the effort many of put into looking luminous, one thing that would go a long way is avoiding alcohol. It just isn’t good for your skin, not even the organic botanical kind. It causes dryness, disrupts the natural PH of the skin and disrupts melanocytes causing uneven pigmentation. Many natural products contain alcohol as a preservative, but best to steer clean when you can. Organic Apoteke products never contain alcohol.

Fragrance – not so sweet after all
We all like to lather up with something that smells fresh and clean and makes us feel lovely. But fragrance is one of those mystery ingredients which could be just about anything and not so sweet. Many are made from petrochemicals. Even ones that say fragrance made from essential oils can be made using solvents. If you are a stickler for purity you might want to consider products that have no “fragrance” on the ingredient list or list only whole essential oils. Organic Apoteke body wash is fragranced using whole essential oils only.

Organic Apoteke’s Body Cleanse Gel is a good choice for those wanting a product that is gentle to their skin and to mother nature.

Argireline versus Natural Skincare

Friday, November 13th, 2009
Amino acids from potentized fruits and vegetables go into making Organic Apoteke's advanced Natural Peptide Complex.

Amino acids from potentized fruits and vegetables go into making Organic Apoteke's advanced Natural Peptide Complex.

Argireline

Argireline, is the trade name for the synthetically derived peptide called acetyl hexapeptide-3. The company selling acetyl hexapeptide-3 is Centerchem, an ingredient manufacture based in Spain and, according to their Web site, “Argireline works through a unique mechanism which relaxes facial tension leading to a reduction in superficial facial lines and wrinkles with regular use. Argireline has been shown to moderate excessive catecholamines release.”

These effects are not good news for your body. Catecholamines are compounds in the body that serve as neurotransmitters such as epinephrine, adrenaline, and dopamine.

• Epinephrine is a substance that prepares the body to handle emergencies such as cold, fatigue, and shock.

• A deficiency of dopamine in the brain is responsible for the symptoms of Parkinson’s.

Do you want a cosmetic to inhibit your body’s neurotransmittors? What if you accidentally apply too much?

The manufacturers of Argireline claim that it works by relaxing facial muscles. Clients have found that these effects last for only a few hours.

Why subject yourself to a risky, temporary wrinkle fix when there are proven, safe and long term wrinkle cures out there.

Organic Apoteke uses a Natural Peptide Complex that is shown to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles for the long term.

How does it work?

Peptides are made up of amino acids. Amino acids are made by your body and supplied by your diet. Our body then supplies these amino acids to various organs and tissues within the body to support healthy function and build tissue.  As we age, our bodies become less efficient at supplying peptides to the skin, collagen begins to degenerate, causing wrinkles.

The Natural Peptide Complex found in Organic Apoteke’s rejuvenating range supplies the skin with peptides from potentized fruit and vegetable sources to rejuvenate collagen and erases wrinkles. Think of it as a supplement for your skin.

Are you looking for a risky, quick fix or a safe, lasting solution that erases wrinkles and supports healthy skin and overall well-being?

Natural Skincare: Winter Skin Saviour – Natural, Organic Face Mask

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009
Rejuvenating Face Mask - Certified organic, anti-aging face mask infused with natural peptides

Rejuvenating Face Mask - Certified organic, anti-aging face mask infused with natural peptides

According to Ayurvedic philosophy our bodies undergo changes as the seasons change. Autumn is more likely to cause a vata imbalance and in winter kapha imbalances are more pronounced. Needless to say our diets, lifestyle and skincare routines need to change in order to counter these imbalances.

Increased vata causes skin and all mucus membranes (in fact any part of the body exposed to the environment) to feel drier, tighter, itchy. As we progress into winter these symptoms become more pronounced. This results in dry, itchy throats with hacking cough. The body, if not assisted sets up its own mechanism to counteract this dryness by increasing mucus production. This increased mucus may cause a post nasal drip, collect in the sinuses or lungs and if conditions persist may become infected.

If we listen to our bodies and at the first sign of autumn and start taking the relevant precautions, many of the winter ails may never prevail. In autumn we need to decrease the amounts of salads and uncooked food and favour nutritious vegetable soups and broths brimming with nutrients. Have more nuts and seeds, as the vital essential fats in them, help nourish from inside out. And use high quality and effective natural skincare products to nourish from the outside in.

The natural skincare product you should not be without over the winter months is a Natural Face Mask. An organic, intensive and rejuvenating face mask is best.

  • Use one that is rich in nutritive oils and waxes such as Rosa damascena oil, coconut fat and shea butter.
  • It should also have a natural, rich emollient like pure, organic honey.
  • Choose a formulation that stimulates microcirculation, as circulation tends to become sluggish over the winter months.
  • Masks that have natural peptide complexes also give you great anti aging benefits.

You only need to use masks once or twice per week depending on your skin type and how effective and nourishing the organic face mask is. Ensure that you are maintaining your skins natural beauty with a good natural, organic skincare regime daily.

Argireline vs Natural, Organic Skincare

A natural peptide complex is a more credible alternative as it can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles on an ongoing basis.

How does a natural peptide complex work?

Peptides are made up of amino acids. Amino acids are made by your body and supplied by your diet. Our body then supplies these amino acids to various organs and tissues within the body to support healthy function and build tissue.  As we age, our bodies become less efficient at supplying peptides to the skin, collagen begins to degenerate, causing wrinkles.

Just think of it as a supplement for your skin.  It is a safe solution that erases wrinkles, supports healthy skin and promotes overall well-being in the long-term.  Surely this has to be better than a risky, short-term fix provided by synthetic peptides?
